I loved the Parasol Protectorate series, so I was excited to start the Finishing School series.
The characters were equally outlandish and fun, the adventure was entertaining and I loved seeing Sidheag and Mme. Lefoux in their younger years.
On the down side, it's very clear that this is a book aimed for Young Adults. Carriger's quirkiness is still present in names like Mrs. Barnaclegoose and the general ridiculousness of the events throughout the book. But the wry wit and banter that I adore from the Parasol Protectorate was lacking. I felt like it wanted to be there in some places, but it wasn't executed well.
Overall a fun read, I'll definitely be looking forward to more in the series!
Audio NotesMoira Quick (who I just realized was the co-host of Guts on Nickelodeon, whoa flashback) was a great narrator. Great accents, character differentiation, and intonation. It wasn't the type of performance where I was blown away, but I would definitely look for her as a narrator in the future.
